About Me

Hi, my name is EmmyLayne Myers, I am originally from Franklin, TN and I am currently student at Auburn University pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with emphases in Human Development and Family Science (HDFS), Psychology, and Counseling. Growing up in a large family with eight siblings has played a significant role in shaping who I am today, giving me a deep appreciation for relationships, communication, and supporting others.

In addition to my coursework, I serve as a Teacher's Assistant for three Human Development and Family Science classes and work as a nanny, both of which have strengthened my ability to support, connect with, and care for others in meaningful ways.

Interdisciplinary Studies is a major that allows students to integrate multiple areas of study rather than focusing on just one discipline. This approach encourages a broader understanding of complex topics and helps develop skills like critical thinking, adaptability, and problem-solving. I was drawn to this major because it allows me to combine my academic interests and my passion for working with people in a purposeful way.

My emphases in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, and Counseling all work together to support my interest in understanding people and helping them navigate challenges. HDFS has given me insight into how people grow and develop overtime, while Psychology helps me better understand behavior, emotions, and mental processes. Counseling ties these two areas together while also focusing on how to actively support and guide individuals through difficult experiences. I chose these three emphases because they align closely with my goals to work in a field centered around connection, and care.

My career goal is to pursue a Master's degree in counseling following my graduation at Auburn, and to become a licensed therapist. I care deeply about counseling because I have personally experienced how impactful it can be. I am passionate about helping others access the care and support they need to feel like themselves again, and I hope to create a space where people feel comfortable, heard, and valued.
