Work Experience

I interned with Insight Counseling in Nashville, TN this summer. My internship was completely remote, so this meant that my office had a little bit of a different look. Pictured to the left, was my office the other week, outside on a gloomy morning with a warm cup of coffee. Working remote offered me opportunity for more flexibility, but also came with it's own kind of setbacks. I am thankful to have gotten the opportunity to work remotely and see the difference between working in-person and working completely online. My role at Insight this summer was to be a part of their Intake staff. This meant answering calls from potential clients, answering questions they have about our organization, connecting them with appropriate therapists, and scheduling their appointments. I created client charts and followed HIPPA regulations in dealing with client information and kept organized records while communicating with the staff effectively. I was exposed to real-life issues and challenged with diffusing chaos right in the moment when I would receive those phone calls. I learned so much from the patients I met this summer, and delighted greatly in encouraging them as they started their counseling journey. It is always intimidating calling in to schedule yourself for something like counseling, and I feel honored and blessed to have been the person on the other side of the phone. 

I got to grow professionally, as this is my first ever internship. I communicated with my supervisor, and other counselors in the practice daily. This made me grow in my communication with others challenged me to think and write succinctly to those I worked with. I got to learn about the counselors I work alongside and learn about their specific specialties and slightly dig into what I may want my specialties to be as well. 

This internship only confirmed and furthered my desire to become a counselor after college and getting my Master's degree.
